Rates and Fees

Devore Water Company Tidbits

History of Water Rates

Early cost of water was $1.50/month plus whatever ran over the weir.

Before 1949, the price of water was a flat rate of $3/month, but water was only available as pressure allowed. The assesment was $2.50/year, which often was not even collected. In 1949, metering started and rate schedules were issued.

In 1952, a total of somewhere around 673 shares were owned.

In 1961, 1000 cubic feet cost $1.17.
In 1968, 1000 cubic feet cost $4.00.
In 1977, 1000 cubic feet cost $6.00.
In 1979, 1000 cubic feet cost $7.25.
In 2000, 1000 cubic feet cost $8.50.

In 2007, over 485 water meters were in use.

The kind of work being done for the water company in the 1940s is shown in the photo above by Harry H, Hall. It took a lot of supports to keep pipes above battering water as they crossed Devore’s canyons.
